Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell delivered an emotional tribute through his first public words following his father’s death.
Messages of condolence been shared throughout the global athletic scene and wider society following the death of the ex- world welterweight titleholder, who passed away at his property this past weekend at the young age of mid-forties.
“Heartbroken isn’t how I feel,” shared his son with a set of cherished images.
“Those who knew us always remarked I looked like your double – there’s a honest word uttered. I looked up to you in each way of life.”
He added: “I can’t explain how much I’m going to long for the jokes we shared and all of the special times, that I will hold dear always. Simply can’t accept we won’t have any more. I love you, Dad.”
Regional police confirmed that the sports legend had been found in his residence located in Greater Manchester. They stated that there were no unusual elements involved in the event.
Following in the footsteps of his dad, Campbell once pursued a path in the ring, making his professional first appearance in recent years. He later withdrew from the competition earlier this year.
Shortly after, the family of the champion shared a statement stating that they were “profoundly touched” by the overwhelming wave of love and sympathy sent their way.
“Our loved one was far greater than a world champion. To us, he was just ‘Richard,’ our boy. A loving dad, grandfather, and sibling, and a genuine confidant to countless people,” the statement stated.
“He carried a heart as generous as his grin, and his kindness, wit, and faithfulness impacted all those fortunate enough to know him.
“To the wider world, Richard will always be remembered as one of the sport’s top champions – a individual who gave every ounce within the fights and displayed his emotions on his sleeve.”
